A pissed off rant & Power of the Pixel

Hey peeps,

Yes… My first blog post - god I can feel the excitement just radiating from you! Well at present I am slightly pissed off.

Just before Christmas I sent a few, nicely printed and professionally bound proposals for a TV Show idea I have been thinking about for a while now to a few channels to try and get them picked up. (For those who don’t know me that well, I am trained in Media Production, and at present I have taken a gap year in my life to try and assess what I am going to do. Basically one day decided to quit my job, and for the past 6 months I have been living on my savings).

Anyway, this week I received three letters as replies to my proposals. One from the BBC, one from Channel 4, and one from Sky. The letter from the BBC basically said it wasn’t something they would be interested in however to contact someone from Channel 4 as they have a criteria more suited for my idea. Luckily I had, and today I received the next envelope from Channel 4. However, my TV idea was good, but they wouldn’t wish to work with my newly formed production company as they do not have anything about me, and I have not got any previous TV work that they could assess.

So can someone please tell me how I, and others like me, are able to get in to the TV world if we need to have a portfolio of other TV shows we have produced as examples? It is ridiculous! I am hoping Sky can say something better about it…

So this has pushed me to create something I have been thinking about for a while: Power of the Pixel – basically a completely free creative community full of all types of creative people wanting to make something of themselves. Also I am hoping that people would help and support each other.
