Ok, this might sound a little formal… which it isn’t, but after speaking with Dom today, I think it is only fair that we tell you the whole story. It’s a nice story about a website (MB), a third party ’security’ element, and a payment system.
Once upon a time, we wanted to save time in the production of the site so we could launch it quicker. We had been suggested to use a third party ’solution’ by several of our friends who made us believe that they were ‘in the know’. However it now seems that instead of saving us time because we didn’t need to build our own… we now have to actually build our own (like we were going to in the first place) and cross off our ‘friends’ from our Christmas card list. :oP
Over the weekend it came to our attention, while testing the new site, that there might be a security issue between our site, a third-party open source feature, and the payment system. Yesterday (Monday) our concerns were found to be true.
Today we have had to take the difficult and frustrating decision of postponing the launch of the Mini Blahs to fix this important issue. The ‘temporary’ site that is online now is not affected with these issues, and so inputting your information is 100% safe. We take our responsibility seriously when it comes to personal and banking information – and this is the reason why we have to pull the plug for now.
At present we do not know how long this ‘fix’ is going to take. The third-party ’solution’ was used to manage both payments (directly to user and our own bank accounts) as well as securely taking personal details off users such as your name and address. It could take a few days, it could take a month. As I type this I honestly do not know. But I thought it important to let you guys know, as we pride ourselves on an open door policy – for both the good and the bad times.
Like Dom said we added more features in to Mini Blahs for the sole reason that we had the time to do so, as our third-party thingy had saved us that time. Which was a lie! :oP It now means that we have to build our own security management thingy (I love being technical), and remove the old one, and then test that out before launch.
I’ll keep you posted,
Leigh
