Last night, I decided to go playing around Cambridge with a good friend of mine, Simon, with his very flashy and very expensive digital camera. The reason, to be honest, wasn’t exactly clear to Simon of why… especially as I requested that he should bring with him as many torches / flash lights as he could with him.
Recently I have been reading about a reasonably new artistic wave in Germany called ‘Light Graffiti’ - and especially one guy called ‘lichtfaktor’ who seems to be focusing a lot of his work on the new medium (some of his amazing work can be found on flickr). The basic concept is get the camera to take a long exposure, so you can use the torches to ‘draw’ images. (Yeah… I know… crap description!)
Anywho, I have just received all 78 photos from Simon’s camera in a very large zipped folder… and the results are just amazing! Sorry I am just very excited about the out come, and am looking forward to making them in to an experimental video / trailer for some Digital Rhapsody work I am doing! That, and also I am amazingly high on Coffee this evening, and so trying to string several sentences together to explain all this is proving difficult! :oP
Here is just one pic from last nights expedition - Simon is waving a huge torch about behind me, who is trying to stand amazingly still while the camera takes a 15sec exposure (the pic has had to be cropped, shrunk, and generally fondled with to make it ‘Web safe’):
