I have receive many requests… some good… some unmentionable… others just weird - but over the last week or so, I have been asked several times about a mash-up album I play in my car all the time off my iPod too many times called ‘American Edit’. And so, for you lucky peeps… here is all the info you need!
American Edit as an album was released by Party Ben and team9 - who are both well known in the mash-up world - under the shared alias of Dean Gray. The whole album runs through the Green Day album American Idiot, with many additions — the name “Dean Gray” is a spoonerism of “Green Day”.
As an internet-only release with no intent of commercial gain, ‘Dean Gray’ took an altruistic approach and asked for the fans who enjoyed the album to donate to charities that Green Day have been known to support.
However, only 10 days after its 18th November, 2005 release date, the American Edit website was shut down, reportedly after receiving a cease and desist order from Green Day’s label, Warner Records, despite the fact that Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong expressed an interest after hearing “Boulevard of Broken Songs” on the radio. (The website returned online soon after, without the music.)
In August 2006, a condensed live version of American Edit was performed as a “mashup rock opera” at club Bootie in San Francisco. Entitled Dean Gray - American Edit: The Theatrical Experience, the show – presented by the band Smash-Up Derby and starring performance artist Foxy Cotton – was a combination of live music, theatre, and visuals.
Today, for all my friends who have asked me SO many times (to the point where I am planning a nervous breakdown a week on Tuesday), here is the entire album for you to download and enjoy.
Please note: I am only supplying the links to another service whom is supplying the MP3 files. None of the album or cover is stored on my servers. So if they stop… then I’m sorry! Also, this album has been produced for ’seamless’ playback (there are no pauses between tracks), the only program from my knowledge that is able to provide seamless playback effectively is iTunes. (If you more information about how to create a seamless play album - leave a comment here, and I will supply all knowledge! :oP )
